Meet William:
“Bill” was born and raised in Tilton New Hampshire with two older sisters and a younger
brother. He attended high school a block away at Tilton School, and college at St.
Lawrence University (no relation) in Canton, New York graduating with a sociology
degree. In high school Bill was introduced to soccer, which became a staple summer
sport for the next 50 years. Bill also enjoys jogging, downhill and cross country skiing,
golf and basketball. His grandfather and dad ran the local hardware store, Bryant and
Lawrence which was established in the 1850s by Philbrick and Hill, when Tilton was still
Sanbornton Bridge.
He worked summers through high school and college, finding his knack for social work at the hardware store. His folks were always active in the community, with various business groups, school board, budget committee, library trustees, etc. These examples drew Bill to local public service. In the last 50 years, Bill has accumulated over 20 years each in service at Planning Board, Budget Committee, and Parks Commission. Other committees have included Main Street revitalization efforts, the Main Street program, Rotary Club, etc.

Why I'm Running
Just as in sports, there are winners and losers, and I’ve been on both teams. But what
I’ve mostly gained from the competitions is how you play. I've always enjoyed
the handshake at the end of the game.
In my 50-plus years serving the community at the hardware store I’ve been blessed to
experience the diversity of individuals in our community. I am constantly amazed at the
creativity and transformative ability of the human race, and I’m not surprised at the
problems we create for ourselves. It is our greatest opportunity to find a way to live
together for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I’ve always enjoyed challenges, whether it is fixing a leaky faucet or balancing the town budget. I prefer to embrace the red, white, and blue in all it’s symbolism as only working together will we succeed.
